I empathise/empathize with you. I'm an Irishman living in the US, and I've been working through the NY Times crossword for some years now. I still engage in a google-fest after solving the puzzle, looking up stuff that I missed growing up on the other side of the pond. I occasionally indulge in the luxury of the Irish Times cryptic crossword, but only when I am home in Ireland, in the pub with a bottle of Guinness in front of me! We're weren't even engaged then! Hub 1.0 explained to me about "the" Ross Beresford, how you'd been all-correct for so long that they made you the editor.
